Research subjects

The main interests of my group focus on innate-like immune responses, including unconventional memory CD8 T lymphocyte responses during gammaherpesvirus and helminth/virus coinfections. We investigate host-pathogen interactions based on two specific infectious disease models in animal and human. First, we are investigating the pathogenesis of wildebeest-derived malignant catarrhal fever induced by the lymphotropic γ-herpesvirus alcelaphine herpesvirus 1 (AlHV-1), in particular we seek to determine how this virus induces a fatal peripheral T cell lymphoma in non-natural hosts such as cattle. Second, we are investigating immune-related protective mechanisms using mouse models of helminth parasite infections and how the resulting type 2-skewed immunity interferes with co-infection with other pathogens, such as viruses.
